Leadership & life lessons from the streets

Notice the drivers around you and your thoughts when you are in traffic. (More relevant in the Indian context) those who alway see to be in a hurry to get ahead are usually also shortsighted. Therefore causing the traffic snarls.

Jumping lanes, squeezing into gaps even jumping Red lights.

It’s a fact that you can’t really gain more than a minute or two by driving over the speed limit even on open roads.

The number of abuses and curses gained however are exponentially more!!! Chances of not getting to the destination are also high. However ask the rash driver and they will extoll the skills they have etc.

All their behaviour exhibits is their supreme lack of respect for others... everyone on the street is out there for a reason none more or less important than mine. When I overtake I am telling them your need is less than mine but I started later and I have to get ahead!!!

It is a direct reflection on my upbringing which shows that I was not taught to respect others. I was taught to get ahead at any cost.... but that does not work... and is not worth the bad Karma I earn.

Bringing in the behaviours of the street into work have pretty much the same results.

I might get ahead by a bit, however the karma  I collect would probably not be all that great!!

My decisions and actions of getting ahead at any cost, can and will impact people around me adversely.

The behaviour of cutting corners and shoving to grab credit and the spotlight instead of sharing it is also a reflection of my upbringing and that is what I will pass on to the next generation.

Unfortunately, if I am unwilling to be open and honest with myself, I am unlikely to see what mayhem I am creating around me and while I might go through life in a blur ... I would have missed the joys of living, caused unspeakable pain to people around me and built a mountain of bad karma to feed off for a long long  time.

Don’t get me wrong, there will be those who admire , drool over the machoisms and high speed and may even reward or join me in my destructive journey of high speed success but that’s what my ego feeds off.
Time to reflect.
Do I respect every single person around me for being human?
Do I see others as co-travellers ?
Do I spend time consciously, to help others be better... may be even better than me?
